Designer's Choice 18 - Florals & Flutters Layering Frame With Vianney Luna

Hello, my name is Vianney Luna, and today we will be making an embossed and die cut shaker card! The new Florals and Flutters Layering Dies Set is perfect for this project. I just love all of the dies in this set, I can’t believe how many dies are on this A5 carrier!! To get started you will need papers of your choice, acetate, sequins/glitter, dimensional foam adhesive, rubber embossing mat, and basic tools for card making.

What you’ll need

Step 1

I will be using smooth white cardstock to make the largest frame (mat). Cut your paper with the largest rectangular die.

Step 2

I will then remove this die, place the largest inlay die down, and run this through with the embossing sandwich. This will allow the die to emboss the paper without cutting through. You might want to spritz your paper with a little water if you get any tearing from the embossing.

Step 3

You will have a deeply etched embossing on your paper! Place this to the side for now.

Step 4

Choose two colors to make an inner frame for the shaker portion of the card. I chose Teal Blue and Buttermilk Yellow classic card. First, I will make a frame from the teal paper, to do this I will place the next largest rectangular die, the inlay die, and the next smallest rectangular die.

Step 5

I am using the insert die for placement. I then remove that inlay die and I will have created a frame that will perfectly fit the overlay frame we will make next. Tape the dies down and run through your die cutting machine.

Step 6

Next, I will go ahead and use all three dies on the yellow cardstock. Tape them down and run them through to make an ornate, inlayed, frame.

Step 7

We will then glue the ornate frame to the teal frame. I also used the largest rectangular die from this part of the project to cut a piece of acetate.

Step 8

Go ahead and glue the acetate to the back of the frame.

Step 9

Next, add a frame of dimensional foam adhesive. Make sure to leave no gaps as we don’t want any sequins/glitter/pieces escaping! Set aside for now.

Step 10

I will make some confetti pieces from a piece of Tidal Wave metallic paper and some from the Buttermilk Yellow paper. To do this, I used the small butterfly tag die, and just kept the butterflies! I ran the die through several times to make a little pile. I will also use some sequins in the shaker.

Step 11

Now we have all of the pieces to make the shaker and base layer of card. I also cut down a piece of the Buttermilk Yellow card to a standard A2 card size (4 ¼” x 5 ½”).

Step 12

Adhere the embossed background frame to the card base. Make a small pile of confetti/sequins/spangles in the center of the mat.

Step 13

Remove the backing from the dimensional adhesive on your ornate inlay frame, and place over top of card base and confetti. Your beautiful card base is done!

Step 14

I will die cut a sentiment using the “Forever” die and its shadow die. I cut the words from the metallic paper and the shadow from white paper.

Step 15

Glue the diecut word to the shadow diecut.

Step 16

Add a little dimensional adhesive to the back of your sentiment and add to your card. Now you can sit back and admire your gorgeous, layered, and embossed shaker card! Thank you for visiting with me today and enjoy your new Florals and Flutters Layering dies set!
